  • For writing so that it appears to be the act of someone who did not authorize it
  • Forge writing to include terms, a date, or a place that is different from the actual facts
  • Forge writing so that it appears to be a copy of an original when no such original existed
  • State or possess with the intent to state any writing that you know to have been forged

It is also unlawful to forge an identification card or sell or distribute an identification card you know to have been forged. An identification card is a card that includes someone’s personal information or characteristics to establish identity.

What Are the Penalties for a Forgery Conviction in Dayton, OH?

Forging an identification card usually results in a misdemeanor charge. You could serve up to 180 days in jail and pay a fine of $1,000 if convicted. Otherwise, forgery is a felony of the fifth degree. The penalty for a conviction of a fifth-degree forgery felony is six to 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.

However, the law makes exceptions under certain circumstances.

For example, if the forgery involves the loss of property valued at $7,500 to $150,000, the charge increases to a fourth-degree felony.
